Ann Helen Matiash, 64, of Wethersfield, loving daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, peacefully passed away Sunday, July 16, 2017 at home. Ann was born June 29, 1953 and raised in Hartford, one of three children to Sofia (Yunkevich) Matiash, with whom she resided and cared for, and the late Wasyl Matiash. She attended Hartford schools, graduating from Buckeley High School, Class of 1971. She and her family moved to Wethersfield in 1977 where she has resided ever since. Ann began her work career at the original Connecticut Bank & Trust Co. where her work ethic and dedication was recognized by her rise to become Assistant Treasurer at the bank. She chose to change employment and began a new career with The Aetna, where once again, her work ethic and dedication earned her promotions and several certificates of merit. Ann was a dedicated communicant of St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Hartford; one of the founders of the Ukrainian Dance Troupe “Zolotyj Promin” founded in 1994; as well as a member of “CYM” Ukrainian Youth Group. She had a very giving heart, was well liked by all and would help anyone in need. Ann will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her family, a brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Barbara Matiash of Southington; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Frank Sorano Jr. of Wethersfield; three adoring nieces, Andrea Torres and her husband John, Jennifer Diamond and her husband Steven; Christina Sorano and her significant other Joseph Angelillo; three cherished great nieces, Isabella, Emily, and Olivia Torres; as well as her extended family and many dear and close friends, especially Nicole and Brian DiCiccio. In addition to her father, Ann was predeceased by a nephew Mark Matiash.
Friends and family may pay their respects to the Matiash family, Thursday, July 20, 2017 from 4-7pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd. Wethersfield, with a Panachyda service at 6:30pm. A Funeral Liturgy celebrating Ann’s life will be held Friday, July 21st at 10am in St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 135 Wethersfield Ave., Hartford (attendees are asked to go directly to church). Interment will follow the Liturgy in St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, New London Tpke, Glastonbury.
