Obituary for Kathleen Pompa (Morgan)

Kathleen Pompa (Morgan)
Kathleen Morgan Pompa, of Wethersfield, peacefully passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was 64 years old. In her last months and days she demonstrated tremendous inner strength, and left this earth with a great serenity and dignity that was inspiring to her family.

Kathy was the beloved daughter of Grace Smith Morgan Dillon and the late Dr. David Russell Morgan. She was an unusually kind and generous soul, was deeply loved by her family and friends, and will be greatly missed. She was a wonderful mother to her two daughters, Jaclyn and Leeann, and an extremely devoted and involved grandmother to her three grandchildren, Nicholas Jr., Dean and Shannon, for whom her love was boundless.

Kathy was born on June 16, 1953. Her exceptional kindness and compassion was in evidence even as a child, as she was selected by her teachers in sixth grade at Chapman School in Cheshire, Connecticut to receive the highest honor awarded to sixth grade students there, the Fannie Camp Gulnac Citizenship Award. She was an excellent student, becoming a National Merit Scholarship Finalist in high school, and went on to earn a degree in Anthropology from the University of Connecticut, and a Certificate in computer programming from the Computer Processing Institute. She married Marc Pompa in 1977, and the couple had two children, Jaclyn and Leeann. Kathy had a long and successful career as a computer systems analyst and data architect with the Aetna Insurance Company and the Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company, retiring in January 2017. She was also very active in supporting a number of charitable organizations, including Amnesty International, Save the Children, and Friends of the Wethersfield Library.

Kathy is survived by her two daughters, Jaclyn Pompa Morrison and her husband Nicholas Morrison of Wethersfield, and Leeann Pompa of Middletown, her mother, Grace Smith Morgan Dillon and her husband Bernard Dillon, of Cheshire, her three grandchildren Nicholas Morrison Jr., Dean Morrison and Shannon Morrison, all of Wethersfield, her sisters Joanne Morgan Bedard and her husband Richard Bedard of Ellington, and Susan Morgan Mauro and her husband Michael Mauro of Southington, her brothers David Russell Morgan Jr., of Windermere, Florida, and Thomas Michael Morgan and his wife Amy Morgan of Las Vegas, Nevada, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives may call on the family at Farley Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield on Friday, July 14, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a memorial service commencing at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Kathy's memory to The Friends of the Wethersfield Library, Inc., c/o The Wethersfield Library, 515 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield, CT 06109.
