Obituary for John P. Brett

John P.  Brett
John P. Brett (Sean), 75, beloved husband of 51 years of Ellen (Carr) Brett, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2017, at home. He was born in Hartford, son of the late Patrick and Elizabeth (Kane) Brett, on May 7, 1942.
John grew up in the Parkville section of Hartford, and attended Our Lady of Sorrows School. He graduated from Hartford Public High School, before proudly serving 3 years in the Marine Corps. Following his service to our country, he graduated from The University of Hartford, and earned his law degree from UCONN School of Law.
John had a long career as an attorney at Combustion Engineering and ASEA Brown Boveri (ABB). He served as Senior Vice President, Secretary and General Counsel, retiring in 2006. He was a devoted parishioner of Corpus Christi Parish in Wethersfield.
Besides his wife, John leaves three daughters, Lisa Miller and her husband John of Wethersfield, Bridget Birmingham and her husband Patrick, and Kathleen Brett and her husband Timothy Ludlam, all of Ellington. He also leaves his grandchildren, Regina and Margaret Miller, Nora, Catherine, and Brendan Birmingham, and Timothy Ludlam. He leaves a sister, Sheila McNally, and her husband Owen. He is survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as cousins in the United States and Ireland, including cousins Mary Margaret Ploszay and Patricia Roberson. John leaves sister-in-law Therese Carr Akin, and brothers-in-law Stephen Carr, Peter Carr, and Paul Carr and his wife Sheryl.
John enjoyed vacationing with his family at Black Point Beach. He was very proud of his Irish heritage, and was a descendent of the Blasket Island community in Ireland. He also enjoyed exercise, reading, watching Red Sox baseball, and spending time with his dog Riley. He could be seen every Friday night at Vito’s in Wethersfield for a family dinner. John will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Friends may call on Wednesday July 5, 2017 from 4-7 pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd. Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating John’s life will be held on Thursday July 6, 2017 at 10:00 am in Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield (All attendees are asked to go directly to church). A private burial will be held in St. Catherine Cemetery, Broad Brook. To extend online condolences, please visit Farleysullivan.com.
