Shirley (Hale) Smith, 82, of Rocky Hill, beloved wife of the late Robert S. “Bob” Smith passed away peacefully, Saturday, April 22, 2017 at her home. Born December 12, 1934 in Hartford, she was the daughter to the late Edmond and Della (Mason) Hale. Shirley lived in Hartford most of her life and for a brief period in Florida at a young age prior to moving back to Hartford. Shirley and Bob met and were married in Hartford then moved to Rocky Hill in 1964 where they raised their family. Prior to her retirement, Shirley was employed by the Town of Rocky Hill for many years, and worked her way up to be Assistant Town Clerk. She was a member of St. James Church, Rocky Hill, the Junior Women’s Club of Rocky Hill, as well as serving on the Rocky Hill Parade Committee and was named Rocky Hill Parade honoree. Her greatest joy was time spent with her family which was filled with laughter and joking, as Shirley was a jokester.
Shirley will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her loving family, a son and daughter-in-law Robert T. and Colleen Smith of Burlington; two adored grandchildren, Amanda Smith of Burlington and Michael DiFabio of Cranston, RI; a son-in-law, Anthony DiFabio of Cranston, RI; two nieces and a nephew, Jennifer Finnegan, Jessica Corriveau and Damon Smith all in New Jersey. In addition to her husband and parents, Shirley was predeceased by her daughter, Lori (Smith) DiFabio, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law Peter and Rebecca Smith.
Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the Smith family, Wednesday, April 26, 2017 from 4 to 7pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Shirley’s life will be held Thursday, April 27th at 11 am in St. James Church, 767 Elm St., Rocky Hill (Attendees are asked to go directly to the church). Interment will follow the Mass in Rose Hill Memorial Park (Section 31), 580 Elm St. Rocky Hill. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 825 Brooks St., Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
