Obituary for Mary Tremont (Gullen)

Mary (Gullen) Tremont, 73, of Hebron, wife and best friend of Thomas F. “Tom” Tremont, went home to the Lord Tuesday March 21, 2017 at home with her family by her side. Mary was born June 24, 1943 and raised in Hartford, one of five children of the late John Peter and Mary Eleanor (Gutt) Gullen. She attended Hartford schools, graduating from Bulkeley High School. Prior to her retirement, Mary was employed for thirteen years with SNET as an operator, after which time she moved to Hebron in 1978 and had her two sons Damian and Justin. When the boys were grown, Mary returned to the workforce, first at Diversified Group Brokerage and then for Penobscot Group, both in Marlborough retiring in 2014. Mary’s most precious time was that spent with family and friends. In her lifetime, she enjoyed and loved her family without measure. She would often talk about the cookouts and parties that were had in Glastonbury, Ellington and Old Saybrook, to mention a few. Mary would look forward to the holidays, for those days would mean a family get together where there would be much joy, fun and love shared by all. Mary would want that love of family to be kept alive and for the family to remember her wherever and whenever a family gathering takes place. Along with her husband and caregiver Thomas, Mary will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her family, two sons Damian Tremont of Hebron and Justin Tremont of Boston, MA; three brothers, Ret. Col. John Peter Gullen, Jr. and his wife Anne, of VA., Frank J. Gullen of Ellington, Greg S. Gullen and his wife Marilu, of West Hartford; her sister and best friend Dorothy Wilcox and her husband Gary, of NY; several nieces, nephews and close friends. In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by a sister in law Joan Gullen. The Tremont family would like to extend their most heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff and nurses of Hartford Healthcare Home Hospice, and Hartford Hospital Oncology, Conklin Building, 2nd Floor. Friends and relatives may call on the family Friday, March 24, 2017 from 4-7pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Mary’s life will be held Saturday, March 25th at 10am in St. Luke Church, 66 Bolton St. Hartford (attendees are asked to go directly to church). Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested in Mary’s memory to the Hebron Interfaith Food Bank, Pendleton Dr., Hebron, CT 06248 or to the Oak Hill School, 120 Holcomb St., Hartford, CT 06112.
