Obituary for Helen A. Mermigos (Andreou)

Helen (Ellie) A. Mermigos, of South Glastonbury and The Woodlands, Texas, beloved wife of the late William G. Mermigos, peacefully passed away on Monday, February 27th, 2017 with her family at her side, in Memorial Hermann Hospital, The Woodlands, Texas. Helen was born and raised in Larnaka, Cyprus, daughter to the late Anthony and Eugenia (Patsalos) Andreou. She attended and graduated from the American Academy High School in Larnaka Cyprus and later came to the United States as a young adult. Ellie was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral (Hartford), St. George Ladies Philoptochos Society, and the St. George Senior Citizens where she served as a past Treasurer, as well as St. Anthony the Great Orthodox Christian Church (Spring, Texas). Ellie will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her family: son and daughter in law, George and Cheryl Mermigos of South Glastonbury; daughter and son in law, Eugenia (Jean) and Matthew Mathopoullos of The Woodlands, TX; two sisters, Efthymia Maroun and Zoe Argyrides; seven adored grandchildren, William, Maria and Elena Mathopoullos, Taryn, Paige, and Olivia Mermigos and Morgan Hilliard; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the family on Friday, March 10th, 2017 from 4-7pm with a Trisagion at 5:30pm, at Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. Funeral Liturgy celebrating Ellie’s life will be held on Saturday, March 11th at 10:30am at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 433 Fairfield Ave. Hartford (attendees are asked to go directly to the Cathedral). Interment will follow the Liturgy at Cedar Hill Cemetery (Section 24), 453 Fairfield Ave., Hartford. To extend online condolences and/or share a memory, please visit farleysullivan.com.
