Condolence From: Theresa Tatro
Condolence: To The Family of Mr. Howard Gillin,
I was saddened to hear of Mr. Gillin's passing.
I had the Honor & Pleasure of meeting Mr. Gillin a few years when he resided in Newington, CT, I was a Therapuedic Licensed Massage Therapist, and Mr. Gillin entered a chance to Win a Therapeutic Massage with Me, and he was lucky enough to Win a session.
The day I met with him, he greeted Me with a Warm, Welcome Smile...as I entered the room, I was amazed & intrigued by the pictures & memorabilia that adorned his Walls. He was more than Happy to share some memories with Me of his career as a Hartford Fireman, which led him to become The Captain of his Firehouse. He quickly pointed out a Fireman's Helmet that was hanging on his Wall, and proudly told Me that it was his and that's what he wore when dispatched to calls. He then asked Me if I would like to take a picture of him wearing his Helmet... I replied, Oh Mr. Gillin, I would Love a picture of You wearing your Helmet. He had Me removed it from the wall, and he put it on, and stood very proudly with it on as I took his picture. He pointed out a large dent on top of the Helmet, and quickly broke out into reminicsing about the day he was dispatched to a burning building and a beam came loose and hit him on the top of his head. He looks at Me with a very "matter of factly" look on his face and said, "Lucky I had the Helmet on"!!! He enjoyed going down memory lane, and seemed very proud of his accomplishments as he was able to retire as a Captain of his Firehouse. I will forever hold that Day in My Heart and will continue to think of him and remember that Day! I hope you all find comfort in the memories you all had made with him.
Sincerely,
Theresa Tatro
