Obituary for Howard "Howie" Gillin

Howard (Howie) W. Gillin, formerly of Wethersfield Newington and husband of the late Isabelle (Moran) Gillin, passed away February 27, 2017 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice facility in Bolivia, North Carolina. He was born on October 31, 1924, son of the late Dennis and Margaret Elizabeth (Phelix) Gillin. He was a proud graduate on Hartford High School. Following Pearl Harbor, Howie enlisted in the US Navy, serving in the Pacific Theatre. He was proud of his career as a Fire Fighter with the Hartford Fire Department, where he served 30 years, retiring as a Captain. Howie was a member of the Fireman’s Benevolent Society, the Firefighter Protective Association, the Police and Firefighter Association and the Hartford Firefighters Retirees Association. He was also a lifetime member of the BPOE Lodge #19, Hartford, the Knights of Columbus Council 3884, Newington, the Irish American Home Society and the Sampson WW II Veterans. He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Marie Moran of Enfield and Louise Gillin of FL, his nieces, Joan Anderson of Farmington and Lisa Franklin of Enfield and his special Goddaughter Donna Richards, of NC. The funeral will be held March 14, 2017 at 9:30 am from the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Hwy, Wethersfield.
