Maria (Leniart) Wilkos, 87, of South Windsor,( formerly of Wethersfield), beloved wife of the late Jan Wilkos, peacefully passed away while surrounded by her family, Sunday, February 26, 2017 in Hartford Hospital. Maria was born August 26, 1929 and raised in Brzyska Wola, Poland, daughter of the late Jozef and Rozalia (Czarniecka) Leniart. In Poland she met her husband Jan and they married and started their family. In 1965 they immigrated to the United States settling in the Hartford area. Maria worked for the Institute of Living for over 20 years, retiring in 1992. She was a faithful parishioner of SS. Cyril & Methodius Church, Hartford, and was a member of the church’s Rosary Society and a member of the Polish National Alliance (PNA) Group 464. She enjoyed watching sports and was an avid follower of the UCONN Huskies men’s and women’s basketball teams, the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. Her most cherished joy was spending time with her family. Maria will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her loving family, a son and daughter in law, Zbignew and Eugenia Wilkos of South Windsor ; three daughters and sons in law, Czeslawa and Kazimierz Nikiel of Rocky Hill , Zofia and Waldemar Drejer of Cromwell and Kathy and Steven Kolodziejczyk of Andover; a son in law Artur Selke of East Hampton; a brother and sister in law Bronislaw and Joanna Leniart in Poland; eleven adored grandchildren; thirteen cherished great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins here in the US and Poland. In addition to her husband and parents, Maria was predeceased by a daughter, Helene T. (Wilkos) Selke; a grandson, Christopher Nikiel; four siblings, Jan, Jozef and Stanislaw Leniart and Aniela Wilkos. Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the family, Wednesday, March 1, 2017 from 4-8pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Thursday, March 2nd at 10am at SS. Cyril & Methodius Church, 63 Popieluszko Court, Hartford (attendees are asked to go directly to the church). Interment will follow the Mass in Cedar Hill Cemetery (Section 24), 453 Fairfield Ave., Hartford. In respect for Maria’s love of church, the Wilkos family suggests that memorial donations are considered to SS. Cyril & Methodius Church Fund, 55 Charter Oak Ave., Hartford, CT 06106.
