Obituary for Dorothy B. Abbruzzese (Brown)

Dorothy (Brown) Abbruzzese, beloved wife of the late Carmine T. Abbruzzese, peacefully passed away Monday, February 6, 2017, at the age of 93, at the Bryn Mawr Extended Care Center in Bryn Mawr, PA. Dorothy was born September 3, 1923, and raised in Hartford, daughter of the late George and Margaret (Cotter) Brown. She attended Hartford schools, graduating from Hartford High, Class of 1941. Prior to her retirement, Dorothy was employed at Connecticut General, now CIGNA, and at the Travelers Insurance Co. She served as President of the Connecticut General Club, a volunteer at Hartford Hospital, as well as an airplane spotter during World War II in the event of an air raid. Most recently, Dorothy volunteered with AARP and the Wethersfield Senior Center Food Bank. She resided in Wethersfield for 51 years, where she was active in the Church of the Incarnation and its’ Women’s Club, then moved to the Lodge in Rocky Hill, where she re-established the flower and vegetable garden, from her vast knowledge and love of gardening, then relocated in 2016 to Bryn Mawr, PA. Dorothy will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. James L. and Marie Abbruzzese, of Durham, NC; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Jack Friedman, of Ardmore, PA, Marguerite and Robert Cleary, of Princeton, NJ; three adored grandchildren, Jason Abbruzzese of New York City, Caitlin and Lauren Cleary, both of Princeton, NJ. In addition to her husband and parents, Dorothy was predeceased by a son, Joseph Abbruzzese. Dorothy’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff and volunteers at the Bryn Mawr Extended Care Center for their kindness and care of Dorothy in the last year of her life. Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the family Sunday, February 12, 2017 from 5-7pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Dorothy’s life will be Monday, February 13th at 10am in the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield(attendees are asked to go directly to the church). Per Dorothy’s request interment will be Private. Memorial donations may be made in Dorothy’s name to Dollars for Scholars, P.O.
