Obituary for Charlotte M. Lindsay (Melton)

Charlotte (Melton) Lindsay, 89, wife of the late Robert Lindsay, of Wethersfield, passed away January 3, 2017 peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Farmerville, LA, daughter of the late John W. and Gladys (Nettles) Melton. Charlotte graduated from Louisiana Tech with a degree in Dietetics in 1948 and did her internship at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. Following that, she worked at Hermann Hospital in Houston, where she met Bob. They were married on May 3, 1952 and lived in Washington D.C. and Dallas before moving to the Hartford area in 1956, after Bob accepted a position at Trinity College. Charlotte worked as a dietician at Hartford Hospital, forming many lifelong friendships there. She stopped working shortly before the birth of her daughter Nancy. Their son Bill and daughter Ann followed and the family moved to Wethersfield in 1968. Charlotte returned to work in the 1970’s, serving as a consultant dietician for several area nursing homes, retiring in 1986. She was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority and the American Dietetic Association. Charlotte also volunteered with the Women’s Fellowship of First Church of Christ. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a wonderful cook. Even after living in Connecticut for many years, she never lost her lovely Louisiana accent.
Charlotte leaves her son and daughters, William M. Lindsay and his wife Katherine Keifer Lindsay of Kearney, NE, Nancy C. Lindsay and Ann E. Lindsay and her husband Michale Kurpaska, all of Newington. She also is survived by her sister Sue Melton of Dallas, TX and her grandchildren, Elizabeth and Spencer Lindsay and Helena Kurpaska. Besides her husband, Charlotte was predeceased by her daughter Rachel, her sister Ann Melton, her daughter-in-law Jill (Pickens) Lindsay and her grandson Matthew Lindsay. The Lindsay family would like to extend a special thanks to her devoted caregivers, Donna Moses as well as Sandy, Nadia, Junie and Adele.
