Obituary for Romeo Napolean "Sonny" LaFaive Jr.

Romeo N. (Sonny) LaFaive, Jr., 67 of Rocky Hill, passed away suddenly in the arms of his loving mother on Tuesday morning, December 6, 2016. Romeo was born September 16, 1949 in Holton Maine, son of Elsie LaFaive Karen of Rocky Hill and the late Romeo N. LaFaive, Sr. Romeo was a lifelong resident of Greater Hartford, graduated from Hartford Public High School (1967), and attended Trinity College as a recipient of the Lewis J. Fox Foundation Scholarship. In 2004, Romeo retired from the Connecticut Department of Labor where he was employed as a Systems Analyst.
Romeo, who loved most to read and engage the minds of others, liberally shared his knowledge and penchants for humor and poetry with family, friends and strangers alike. An avid learner throughout his life, he learned to speak and read in five languages and became proficient in advanced math and French literature. In his retirement years, Romeo enjoyed living and working at his brother’s farm in Stonington – the chickens weep. Romeo touched all who knew him and will be long remembered.
Along with his mother Elsie, Romeo will be dearly missed by his two sisters and brothers-in law, Donna and Mark Nimrod of South Carolina, Pamela and Christopher Guinan of Wethersfield, and brother and sister-in-law Douglas and Helen LaFaive of Stonington; five nieces and nephews, Selby Nimrod, Sean Guinan, Alison Guinan, Marcy Cocke and Austin Bulkeley.
A memorial celebration will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, December 15, 2016 in the Trinity College Chapel located on the Trinity College Campus in Hartford.
A private interment ceremony was held on Jacob’s Way at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford.
Romeo’s funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Farley Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. To extend online condolences, please visit farleysullivan.com.
