Lucille (Sullivan) Halfpenny, 88, lifelong resident of Glastonbury, beloved wife of the late James Joseph Halfpenny, peacefully passed away Friday, August 19, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital. Lucille was born in Hartford, January 8, 1928, daughter to the late John Daniel “J.D.” and Ethel (Smith) Sullivan. She was a devout catholic from a young age; attending area catholic schools as well as receiving her A.S. from Hillyer College, B.A. from University of Hartford and a Master’s Degree of Library Science from Southern Connecticut State University. Lucille learned to fly before she learned to drive. Lucille was an avid bowler, Yankee fan and a strong Republican. Prior to her retirement Lucille worked in libraries at the University of Hartford, Central Connecticut State University, Holy Apostle Seminary and St. Thomas Seminary. Lucille was the beloved mother to Ethel “Penny” Stanziale and her husband Thomas; cherished grandmother to Katherine Stanziale and Tristan Stanziale, all of Glastonbury; Lucille is also survived by her sister, Dr. Pauline Haas of San Francisco, many nieces and nephews, long time friends Patricia Martinyak and Barbara Roche. Lucille was predeceased by her sisters Lois Ann Bara and Irene Finn and brothers John R and Leo Sullivan. Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the family, Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30am at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Naubuc Ave., Glastonbury, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Lucille’s life at 11am in St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury. Lucille will be laid to rest alongside her husband and parents in the family plot in St. Mary Cemetery (Section D), Burnside Ave., East Hartford. The family has requested in lieu of flowers and that memorial donations be made to St. Thomas Seminary, 467 Bloomfield Ave., Bloomfield, CT 06002 or the Holy Apostle Seminary, 33 Prospect Hill Rd.
