Obituary for Andrew H Jackson

Andrew H Jackson
Andrew H. Jackson entered his eternal rest peacefully on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at
St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, Connecticut. He was born December 31, 1935 in Medford, Massachusetts, the son of George and Julia (Brown) Jackson. He joined the U.S Army at an early age, and became a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. Off-duty, he was part of a singing trio and would harmonize with his army buddies. He later served in the U.S. Army Security Agency and Military Intelligence. His overseas tours consisted of Japan, Vietnam and Korea. He retired from both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Postal Service; and worked for the CT State Department of Education for several years. His hobby was photography. While stationed in Virginia with his family, living near Washington DC, he had the opportunity to take pictures of many famous people and events, including Presidents George Bush, Richard Nixon, Lyndon Johnson and John F. Kennedy. In his travels he also had opportunities to take pictures of famous celebrities such as Elvis Presley, who filmed a movie on location in Hawaii while he was there. He appreciated the arts, and enjoyed opera, jazz, musical theater and nice paintings. He was enthusiastic about sharing his ideas to help expand the annual Holidays on Main Tradition in Old Wethersfield, as the Holiday Season was one of his favorite times of the year and he always made Christmas very special for his family. He is survived by his adult children Rebecca and David Jackson; and his former wife Jean Boucher Jackson who lovingly cared for him during his bout with cancer. He was the third child of 16 children in a large and loving family of 10 brothers and 6 sisters. He also leaves his sisters, Cindy Jillson, Judy Sanders, Marilyn Lombard, Carol Jackson and Donna Jackson; his brothers Gary, Steven, Joel, Roderick and Wayne Jackson; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Dale, Keith, Bruce, Teddy and Sister Jetta. Friends and family may visit from 9:00am to 10:30am on Tuesday March 17, at the Farley Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield, CT. A celebration of life and church service is planned for 11:00am Tuesday, March 17 at The First Church of Christ, 250 Main Street, Wethersfield, CT. Burial will follow in Village Cemetery, Marsh St. Wethersfield. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate in his memory to The American Cancer Society, 825 Brook Street, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
