Joanna “Jennie” (DeGaeta) Volpicella, 94 of Burlington, beloved wife of the late Joseph Volpicella, passed away peacefully, Friday, February 1, 2013 at Ingraham Manor, Bristol. Jennie was born December 8, 1918 and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She was one of nine children of the late Angelo and Pasqualina (Perrone) DeGaeta. She and Joe married and started and raised their family in Brooklyn. She was the President of the PTA of PS 179 for several years, but what meant most to her was her job as a mother, looking after their four sons. Jennie was a source of encouragement to her boys, which prompted her eldest son Lew to search for opportunity in Connecticut, where he founded Bristol Auto Parts, Inc. Jennie would visit Connecticut quite often with her other sons, moving to Burlington 30 years ago after Joe’s passing. Jennie will be fondly remembered by her loving family; her four sons and their spouses, Lew and Lucretia Volpicella, Angelo and Terry Volpicella all of Bristol, Joe and Mary Ellen Volpicella of Staten Island, NY, John and Sue Volpicella of Bristol; six grandchildren, Sandra Modarressi and her husband Hamid, of Farmington, Mike and Joey Volpicella of Bristol, Christian Volpicella of Staten Island, NY, Kevin and Jeanine Volpicella of Bristol; five cherished great grandchildren, Laura, Angela, and Vincent Volpicella, Kameron and Sofia Modarressi; in addition to two very special friends, Mary Sarrentino, Jennie’s companion, and Deacon John Reardon who would visit quite often and give her communion. Along with her parents, Jennie was predeceased by her seven siblings. Friends and relatives may pay their respects on Sunday, February 10, 2013 from 3-5pm at the DuPont Funeral Home, 25 Bellevue Ave., Bristol. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, February 11, 2013, at 10am in St. Gregory Church, Stafford Ave., Bristol. Following the Mass, Jennie will be laid to rest with her husband Joe in Greenwood Cemetery (Arbor Section), 4th Ave. and 25th St., Brooklyn, NY. Jennie’s funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the FARLEY-SULLIVAN FUNERAL HOME, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield, CT 06109.
