Henry S. (Hank) Kardys, 88, a resident of Glastonbury for over fifty two years, beloved husband of Caroline N. (Olender) Kardys, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2008. Born in Hartford, on January 13, 1920 he was the son of the late Stanley and Katherine (Lopata) Kardys. Henry was a U. S. Navy veteran of WWII serving in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Intrepid and the USS Lexington. An avid baseball fan he played baseball for the SS Cyril & Methodius Church, in Hartford and the St. Jude’s semi-pro team also of Hartford. Henry was a Communicant of SS Cyril & Methodius Church. In addition, he was a member of the VFW Post 2083 in East Hartford. Prior to the war, he was employed by Hartford Special Machinery Co. Upon graduating from the University of Connecticut, Henry was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for twenty five years, retiring in 1976. In addition to Caroline, his wife of sixty years, he is survived by his son, Jeffrey Kardys and his wife Cheryl of East Hartford, and three grandchildren, William Kardys and his wife Andrea of Arvada, CO, Jonathyn Kardys and his fiance’ Jennifer Cheney of East Hartford, and Amanda Russo and her husband Peter also of East Hartford as well as a great grandson, Jack Kardys of CO, a special niece, Karen Tashman and grand-nephew Jon Tashman, his two sisters, Helen Loria of Pittsburgh, PA, and Stella Nugent of Windsor, CT, and several nieces and nephews. Henry was predeceased by his brother, Sgt. Bronsislaw (Brownie) Kardys, who gave his life during WWII and his sister, Julia Glowacki. Funeral Services will be held, Saturday, December, 13, 2008 at 10am from the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd, Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in SS Cyril & Methodius Church, 63 Popieluszko Ct, Hartford, CT.
