Marjorie G. Courneen, 82, of Wethersfield, wife for 60 years, of Martin B. Courneen succumbed to a cerebral hemorrhage on June 9, 2012. Born October 7, 1929 in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Folke and Mary (Gliniak) Gustafson. Along with her husband Marty, Marge will be fondly remembered by her loving family; her four Children James M. Courneen and Jan Gaski of Bristol, Linda C. Cowles of Rocky Hill, Diane M. Marrero and her husband Angel Luis Marrero of Windsor, Sharon J. Courneen and Chris Dent, of Wethersfield; brother Richard Gustafson and Spencer Means of New York, NY, brother William Gustafson and his wife Linda Gustafson of North Kingston, R.I. , brother-in-law Lt. Col. (Retired) Robert E. Courneen of Fayetteville, PA. In addition, Marjorie leaves behind her eight cherished grandchildren; Jason Courneen and his wife Alexis Courneen of Suffield, Jeffrey Courneen of Middletown, Jaclyn Courneen of New Britain, Julie (Cowles) Myers and her husband Nick Myers of Westervile, Ohio, Shannon Cowles of Rocky Hill, Lindsay Cowles of Rocky Hill, Nicholas Marrero of Windsor, Austin C. Bovino of Wethersfield; her four adoring great-grandchildren; Brynna and Riley Courneen of Suffield, Mason J. Courneen of Rocky Hill, Mason G. Myers of Westerville, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends including her two cousins Dorothy and Jean Bieszad, who helped Marty a great deal with caring for her. In addition to her parents, Marjorie was predeceased by an infant son. Marge graduated from Bulkeley H.S. in 1947 and Married Marty on September 1, 1951. Marge excelled in math, her first job was at Connecticut General Life Insurance. She left to raise her family, then returned to the workplace in 1970. For over 30 years she was a bookkeeper for a prominent Hartford area attorney. Macular Degeneration forced her to retire in 2004. Earlier she enjoyed playing golf at Wethersfield Country Club where she could hold her own. She and Jim won the Mother-Son Championship in 1980. She thoroughly enjoyed her entire family, dining out, playing bridge with enlarged cards, riding in the car, winters in Jupiter, Florida, as well as a lifetime of summers at the family cottage at White Sand Beach in Old Lyme. Marge was a big fan of the New York Yankees, Giants and Jets. She had excellent care from the wonderful medical staff at Hartford Hospital.
Family and friends may gather Monday June 11, 2012 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home 34 Beaver Rd in Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday June 12, 2012 at 12:00 noon at Church of the Incarnation 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, 453 Fairfield Ave., Hartford,. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marjories’s name to Macular Degeneration Research P.O.
