James W. Hughes “Jim”, 72, of Wethersfield, beloved husband of Mary Elizabeth “MayBeth” (Puhala) Hughes, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 05, 2011 at Hartford Hospital. Born January 4, 1939, and raised in Bronx, NY, Jim was the son of the late James J. and Martha (Ebinger) Hughes. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his wife MayBeth, Jim will be fondly remembered by his loving family; a son and daughter-in-law, Keith Hughes and Mary Joy Moriarty of West Hartford; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Manuel Quintana of Cromwell; four grandchildren, James Hughes of West Hartford, Ellen, Francisco, and Andrew Quintana, of Cromwell; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Margaret Hughes of Montgomery, AL; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Barbara and Andrew Kilcarr of Virginia, two nieces, Lisa (Hughes) McKinney of Alabama, Terri Balaran of Virginia; and a nephew, Patrick Kilcarr of Maryland and. Jim resided in the Wethersfield since 1969. He was a United States Air Force veteran. Jim held various positions in Finance areas at The Travelers Insurance Co. retiring as a Second Vice President after working there for 25 years, he went on to work for the State of Connecticut University System for five years. He graduated from Fordham University in 1961 where he was a member of the Alpha Beta Kappa Honor Society. He was a lector and member of the Parish Council at Corpus Christi Church for many years. He was an avid gardener, tennis player and member of the Wethersfield Senior Golf league. He was best known for his love of life, fun and family. Funeral procession will be Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 9:15am from the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Jim’s life at 10am in Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. Burial in Village Cemetery, Old Wethersfield will be at the convenience of the family. Jim’s family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home, Friday, July 8 from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Corpus Christi Church, 84 Somerset St., Wethersfield, CT 06109.
