Helen Carroll Pizzo, of Glastonbury, beloved wife of the late Dr. Paul S. Pizzo, passed away peacefully Friday morning April 1, 2011. Born in Bridgeport, CT on December 2, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Francis P. Carroll and Mary (Cassidy) Carroll. She graduated from Laurelton Hall in Milford, CT and St. Joseph College in West Hartford. After graduation, Helen began a teaching career at Grasmere and McKinley Schools in Fairfield, CT. She resided in Hartford most of her life. Helen was an avid and accomplished tennis player and golfer and continued to play well into her 70s. She will be fondly remembered as a good listener who enjoyed being around family and friends. She faithfully supported – and transported – her children in all their activities, be they athletic or musical. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and is survived by six children; Paul Pizzo of West Hartford, Kate Pizzo and her husband, Anthony and their children, Stephen, Christian and Patrick of Worcester, MA, Jon and his wife, Kathi and their children, Jonathan, Jillian, Rachel and Michael of Glastonbury, Thomas Pizzo and his wife, Julie and their children Elyse and Michelle of Glastonbury, Alice Bartha and children, Justin, Jake and Jacqueline of Colchester and Ted Pizzo and his wife, Jeannette and children, Drew, Jack, Olivia and Erin of Glastonbury; along with her sister Alice E. Tortora of Greenwich, CT. In addition to her husband and parents, Helen was also predeceased by two sisters, Mary and Patricia Carroll. Funeral procession from the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd. Wethersfield, will be Monday, April 4, 2011 at 8:45am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Helen’s life at 10am in St. Paul Church, 2577 Main Street, Glastonbury. Interment will follow in the family plot in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery (Section T), 1 Cottage Grove Road, Bloomfield. The Pizzo family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home Sunday, April 3, from 4-7pm.
