Helen (Early) Suppicich, 87, formerly of Wethersfield, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 14, at Wethersfield Health Care Center. She was the beloved wife of the late John Suppicich. Helen was born in the Frog Hollow section of Hartford on November 22, 1923 to James J. and Elizabeth (McCarthy) Early. She was educated at the Immaculate Conception Grammar School and then went on to graduate from Hartford Public High School, Class of 1941. Helen lived most of her life in Wethersfield and worked as a secretary for the Wethersfield Board of Education for many years. She enjoyed evenings out dancing, shopping, lunch with friends, and Friday afternoon visits to Hair Craze hair salon. In support of John’s longtime commitment as a charter member and past Captain of the Wethersfield Volunteer Fire Dept., Co. 3, Helen and John would attend fire department events, together and after John’s passing, on her own. Helen thought of the members and their families as her extended family. She was known for meeting friends and former classmates wherever she went, recognizing most by sight, even after 70 years. She worshiped at both Sacred Heart and Corpus Christi Churches. Helen was devoted to her faith, family and friends, always displaying care and kindness to anyone. Helen will be fondly remembered by her loving family, her daughter Sheila Suppicich of Severn, MD; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Kristina Suppicich of South Windsor; two adoring granddaughters Karly and Ella Suppicich of South Windsor; cousins Edward McCarthy of East Hartford and Jean McCarthy Moske of Danbury; sister-in-law Katy Bernet of San Marcos, CA along with a myriad of beloved nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her second family and cherished lifelong friends, Tony and Julie DiGiro and their children. In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was predeceased by her brother, James F. Early. Helen’s family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to the staff and residents of The Village at Buckland Court in South Windsor, the nursing staff at Wethersfield Health Care Center, and Caregivers, CT for the wonderful care they extended to her over the past two years. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Helen’s life will be held Monday, January 17, 2011 at 11:00am. All are asked to go directly to Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. Interment will be next to John in Rose Hill Memorial Park, (Section 25), 580 Elm St., Rocky Hill. Helen’s family will receive relatives and friends at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield, Sunday January 16, from 2-4pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Helen’s honor to The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th floor, Brookline, MA 02445. Attn: Contribution Services.
