Elizabeth “Betty” (Kase) Phillips Baker, 91, lifelong Hartford resident, passed away peacefully, Friday, September 17, 2010 at her home, where she was born, in Hartford, surrounded by her loving family. Born March 8, 1919, she was one of two daughters of the late Ralph and Margaret (Maharon) Kase. She was in the first class of Naylor School, continuing through the Hartford school system, graduating Bulkeley High School Class of 1936, and then Morse College. Betty was very active in the Girl Scouts, attaining Eagle Scout, and then became a Scout leader for many years. As her father was, Betty was very active in Republican Politics in Hartford, including the Republican Town Committee and the State Central Committee Woman from the 3rd District. She retired from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford after many dedicated years, she was the Secretary to the Head of Testing. Along with her family she owned and operated Baker’s Café in Hartford. She enjoyed her family vacations to the Rhode Island Beaches, had a passion for Christmas, which included finding the largest tree possible, forcing it into the house and then decorating it. Betty was a hard working, devoted, mother and grandmother, who will be fondly remembered by her loving family; two daughters, Barbara Phillips Cimiano and her husband Eugene, Gail Phillips Frye, all of Hartford; a son Ralph C. Phillips and his wife Cruger, of West Hartford; six grandchildren, Alan Cimiano and his wife Deirdre, Cheryl Christopher and her husband Jeff, Emily Gordon and her husband Chris, Emmett Phillips, Adam Frye, and Rachel Frye; three adoring great grandsons, Keith and Gavin Cimiano, and Jay Christopher; and last but definitely not least her devoted dog Copper. Along with her parents, Betty was predeceased by her husbands, Chester Dimon Phillips, and Richard C. Baker; her sister June Kase Boisseau, as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral procession from the Farley Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd, Wethersfield will be Thursday, September 23, 2010, at 9:00am, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Betty’s life at 10:00am in St. Luke Church, 66 Bolton St., Hartford. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park, (Section 15), 581 Elm St., Rocky Hill. Betty’s family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home, Wednesday, September 22, 2010 from 4-8pm.
