Barbara Anne (Egan) Pitkin, 86, of Hartford peacefully passed away on Thursday (May 13, 2010), at Hartford Hospital with her children by her side. Barbara was born on October 3, 1923 in Holyoke, MA. She grew up in Longmeadow and Haydenville, MA before moving to Hartford when she was ten. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Margaret (Lenihan) Egan. She was predeceased by her husband of 38 years Edward G. Pitkin Jr. who died December 6, 1982. She graduated from St. Augustine’s School, Hartford, class of 1937, Mount St. Joseph Academy, West Hartford, class of 1941, and St. Joseph College, West Hartford, class of 1945. After raising her children, she worked at the Hartford Firefighters’ Federal Credit Union for over 33 years, working until March 2010. She is survived by her eight children, Barbara (Anne) and her husband Peter Alfano of Lomita, CA, Edward (Ted) and his wife Karen of Windsor Locks, Mary (Denise) and her husband Paul DiPietro of Ivoryton, David and his fiancé Jeanne Rogers of Jacksonville Beach, FL, Timothy Pitkin and Laurie Woodstock of Old Saybrook, Matthew and his wife Michele of Kensington, John and his wife Susan of Glastonbury, Margaret and her husband Carlos Santos of Wethersfield. She leaves thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren (who fondly referred to her as Beebah or Bobby); David Alfano, Kristin (Alfano) Garcia, her husband Vic and their children Rose, Sophia, Iris and Beau; Joseph Alfano and his partner Adam Husted, Jason Pitkin, Michael Pitkin, his wife Jaime and their children Isabella and Julia; Craig DiPietro, Timothy and Jessica Pitkin, Megan and Mitchell Pitkin, John Pitkin, Kyle and Alyssa Santos. She also leaves her cousin with whom she grew up with Margaret Colli and the Colli clan of Windsor Locks, her sister-in-law Katherine Pitkin of Newington and Old Saybrook. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and friends. She was a communicant and Minister of the Eucharist at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church and a volunteer at Avery Heights. She was a member of the Hartford Firefighters Retiree Association and the Patrolman’s and Firefighters Benevolent Association. Barbara always enjoyed a family get together, going to work, lunch with “The Girls” and friends including her annual trip overseas. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. The family would like to send a special thank you to Tina Gulpana-Berdibaera, Dr. Anthony LaSala, Dr. Thomas Divinagracia and Dr. Sharon Diamen of the Bliss 5 Palliative Care unit at Hartford Hospital for their care and compassion. Funeral Services will be held Monday, May 17, 2010 at 9am, from the Farley Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd, Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Hwy, Wethersfield. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 453 Fairfield Ave, Hartford. Friends and relatives may call on the family Sunday, May 16, 2010 from 4-8pm at the Funeral Home. Barbara has requested no flowers.
