Hugo G. Valentino, 89, of East Hartford, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home, Wednesday May 12, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Hartford July 12, 1920, he was the son of the late Guido and Antoinnette (DePasquale) Valentino, and the loving husband to the late Elsie Grace (Potter) Valentino; he resided in the Hartford area all his life. Hugo proudly served his country during WWII in the Pacific Theatre, from February 1943 to September 1945. He was a Flight Mechanic and co-Navigator/Gunner on a B-24 Bomber, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant in the United States Army Air Corp., flying in 41 successful combat missions. After returning from the war, he went to work for the Connecticut Natural Gas Co. as a Service Technician, where he worked for many years prior to his retirement. He was very active, loved to swim, dance, and watch the New England Patriots, and most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. Hugo will be greatly missed by his family; three sons and their wives, Richard and Eileen Valentino of Colorado, James Valentino and Esther Herrera of Farmington, Robert and Gina Valentino of Florida; four daughters, Catherine and Paul Cavanna of Glastonbury, Christine Valentino of Florida, Susan Valentino of Glastonbury, Joanne and Eric Decker of Pennsylvania; two brothers and their wives, Richard and Doris Valentino of Atlanta, GA, and Robert and Barbara Valentino of Tennessee. He also leaves his cherished sixteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Hugo was predeceased by a grandson, Ryan Valentino; three sisters, Connie Hopwood, Emma Valentino, and Lorraine Simeone. Hugo would like everyone to remember, “It’s only for a life time”. Funeral procession from the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Naubuc Avenue, Glastonbury, will be Monday, May 17, 2010 at 9:00am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Hugo’s life at 10:00am in Our Lady of Peace Church, 370 May Road, East Hartford, CT. Interment will be in Veterans Memorial Field of Silver Lane Cemetery, Silver Lane, East Hartford. Hugo’s family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home, Sunday May 16 from 4-7pm. Memorial donations may be made in Hugo’s name to a charity of the donor’s choice. |
