Joseph J. Buyak Jr., 72, of Sprague, CT, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Hartford Hospital after a short battle with brain cancer. He was born in Hartford on November 28, 1937, the son of the late Joseph J. Buyak Sr., and Emma (Dubiski) Buyak. He was a proud veteran of the U. S. Navy, serving aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Forrestal, which allowed him to travel the world. Joe was employed by the USPS for thirty six years as a Letter Carrier. He retired in May of 2000 allowing him to enjoy the passions of his life; hunting, fishing and gardening. Joe grew the most beautiful flowers and always had prize-winning gardens. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend. He is survived by his adoring wife of forty nine years, six months and ten days, Maureen Bowen Buyak, of Sprague; his devoted children, Joseph J. Buyak III and his wife, JoAnn of West Hartford, his daughter Laura J. Buyak and her husband, Michael Fago of Old Saybrook, his son, John F. Buyak and his wife Maria Militello, of West Hartford, and his son, James G. Buyak and his wife, Maura of Wethersfield; seven beautiful grandchildren, Caroline, Emily, Julia, Megan, Ally, Alex and Aidan; his brother and fishing companion in their retirement years, Robert Buyak of East Haddam, his sister, Diane Billings and her husband, Dana of Hebron, his sister-in-law, Bonnie Bowen Patterson and her husband Gary, who was Joe’s best friend for forty seven years, of Waterford, his brother-in-law, John F. Bowen and his wife Karen of Newington; his loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his sisters-in-law, Joan T. Buyak and Barbara Moriarty Bowen. The family wishes to thank two of the finest, most loving and caring doctors it has been their privilege to know, his cardiologist, Dr. Melissa Ferraro-Borgida and his urologist Dr. Marlene Murphy-Setzko, who saved Joe’s life in July, 2006, giving us almost four more wonderful years with him. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 9am from the Farley Sullivan Funeral Home 34 Beaver Rd, Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, 494 New Britain Ave, Hartford.
