Gertrude McEvoy Rice, 94, an exceptional, graceful, loving woman passed on peacefully at home in Rocky Hill, April 6, 2010. Gertrude was predeceased by her loving husband, Eugene. Born in Massachusetts, daughter of the late Martin and Catherine (Feighry) McEvoy. She was a graduate of Bulkeley High School, class of 1932B; graduate of Lasell Jr. College (now Lasell College) class of 1937. Employed at HELCO until her marriage to Eugene Rice; after his death, employed at the Town of Wethersfield Health Dept, retiring in 1990. She volunteered at the House of Bread and Meals on Wheels. She was a member of the Women’s Club of Corpus Christi Church; AARP Chapter 1222 and the Conn. Valley Lasell Club. She is survived by nephews, Arthur Lendo, Ph.D. of Langhorne, PA, Kevin Lendo and wife Vicky and family of Bensalem, PA; Brian Robideau and wife Rose and family of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; James Rice and wife Bonnie and family of Rocky Hill; two nieces, Mary Louise Rice Weidl of Niantic, CT and Elizabeth Rice Maddex of Springdale, WA. She also leaves a dear friend, Peter LaDuca of Long Island, N. Y. Gert was predeceased by a brother, Arthur McEvoy and sisters, Mary Robideau and Florence Lendo. Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 9, 2010 at 10:30 am from the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd, Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Hwy, Wethersfield. Interment will follow at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, 1 Cottage Grove Rd, Bloomfield. Friends and relatives may call on the family, Friday April 9, 2010 between 9:30am to 10:30am at the funeral Home. In Lieu of flowers those wishing to make a gesture of remembrance can make a contribution to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 1365 Enfield St, Enfield, CT. 06082 or to a charity of one’s choice.
