Joseph L. Cocivera Sr. of Weatogue CT. passed away peacefully at his home, Wednesday, March 24, 2010, surrounded by his loving family and loyal caregiver, Kathy. He was born in Hartford, to parents Santo and Rosalie Cocivera. He and his wife Salvatrice (Catalano) raised their three children in Hartford and later after his retirement from the U.S. Postal Service moved to Weatogue. Joe served bravely and honorably in the US Army during WW II. He was awarded the Bronze Service Arrowhead Award, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, The Distinguished Unit Badge and a Purple Heart Medal for his heroic service with the 4th Infantry Division at Normandy. He was a member of the local VFW. Joe is survived by his wife of sixty three years Salvatrice, a sister Sadie Forte of Wethersfield and is predeceased by his older sister Anne DiPietro of Sommerville, MA. He is also survived by his children Rosalie Muzzy-Carlson (Dave) of Tuscon, AZ., Joseph Cocivera Jr. (Patricia) of Farmington, and Carmella Wild of Canton. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Joe was a wonderful and loving husband, father, brother and friend. He blessed his family with his amazing mechanical skills, his love of music and dance and he had an amazing zest for life. He was a fantastic bowler and enjoyed playing with his teammates on The Valley Senior Bowling League. He touched the hearts of many and led by example and was always our role model. Special thanks to great caregivers, Kathy, Chris, and Rommey. Special thanks to Kathy who was there for us in his final days and to the wonderful staff at McLean’s Home and Hospice. Dad, we love you and miss you and know that you are with our family in heaven and are watching over us. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Joseph’s life will be held Monday March 29, 2010 at 11am directly in St. Ann’s Church, West Avon Road and Arch St., Avon. Interment will follow at Mount. St. Benedict Cemetery, (Section W), 1 Cottage Grove Rd, Bloomfield. His family will receive relatives and friends Sunday March 28 from 4-7pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield.
