Daniel Ferrara, 32 Of Wethersfield, CT, passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by his devoted family. He fought a courageous battle with Duchene Muscular Dystrophy and was an inspiration to many. Dan was the loving son of Salvatore and Kathleen Lurate Ferrara. He leaves a large and caring family, including his hero and older brother Brett, sister-in-law Kezia, his nephew and beloved godson Zachary (who always managed to make him smile), his grandmother Rita Lurate and grandparents, Jean and Mario Biondi. In addition, Dan is survived by his support team, his devoted aunts and uncles, John and Diane Lurate, (godmother) Margaret Lurate and David Judge, James (godfather) and Beth Lurate, MaryEllen Lurate, William and Yolanda Lurate, and Kerry Lurate. He also leaves behind many cousins. Dan loved all sports. He was a die-hard Yankees, Giants, Uconn and Whaler fan and loved going to see his teams play. He was happy to see his Yankees go out on top as World Series Champions once again. He also enjoyed watching his brother play soccer, traveling with the team and his position as the manager for the Wethersfield Soccer Club. He also played baseball for the Wethersfield Challenger Team. He was proud to serve as the Muscular Dystrophy Assoc. Poster Child for three years. Dan was a graduate of Wethersfield High School and worked at Hartford Hospital – Patient Accounts for the past twelve years. He loved his job an co-workers and their kindness and compassion will always be appreciated. Dan was predeceased by his grandfather Raymond Lurate, aunt, Ann Lurate Lupo, and uncle, Thomas Ferrara. Dan’s family would like to express their gratitude to his caregivers, Juan, Margie, Karen, Michele, and Jane. In addition the family would like to thank the staff at St. Francis Hospital, especially Dr. Lahiri for their extraordinary care and kindness. Finally, Dan will be sorely missed by Jake, his service dog and companion of seven years. Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 29, 2010 at 9:00am from the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd, Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Hwy, Wethersfield. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 453 Fairfield Ave, Hartford. Friends and relatives may call on the family Sunday March 28, 2010 between 3-6pm.
