John Edward O’Connor, 90 of Glastonbury, CT, died peacefully at Glastonbury Health Care Center, March 2, 2010. John was born August 23, 1919 the only son of Maurice and Katherine (Dorgan) O’Connor. He leaves his devoted and beloved wife, Kathryn whom “He only had eyes for” since they met in 1948. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. He also leaves his three dedicated sons and their wives, whom he felt incredibly proud of and blessed to have in his life, Rick and his wife Evelyn of Bolton, CT., Brian and his wife Deborah of Glastonbury, CT., Kevin and his wife Trudy of Marlborough, CT., his fun loving and bright grandchildren and great grandchildren who brought so much joy to his life. Danny and his wife Jessica of Charlestown, NH and their children, (great grandsons Quinn and Keegan), Jaime and Rachel O’Connor of Marlborough , CT and Caitlin O’Connor of Bolton, CT., several nieces and nephews who were all so devoted and caring to both John and Kathryn and many dear friends. He lived in Glastonbury since 1953, was a member of the Irish American Society, past president of the GHS Booster Club, and an avid Red Sox fan who waited his entire life to see them win the World Series. John loved spending time with his family and loved music especially Glenn Miller. He had an extensive collection of big band era music. John worked for Sunshine Biscuits for 37 years before retiring in 1982. Many of his friends and co-workers to this day remember him as “Big John”. He was a kind and gentle man who will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him. His family will receive friends at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Naubuc Ave, Glastonbury, CT Friday March 5th, 5-7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Saturday March 6 at 11am in St Paul Church, 2577 Main Street, Glastonbury, CT. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at www.stjude.org.
