William E. (“Billy”) Rowe, beloved husband, best friend , and soulmate of 39 years to Diane (Peterson ) Rowe, died peacefully Monday, February, 22, 2010. after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Manchester, Bill was the son of the late Suzanne (Fiedler) and George Joseph Rowe. Besides his wife Diane, Bill leaves his daughter, the apple of his eye, Ashley Rowe of Middletown, grandchildren, Christopher and Anthony Rowe, a loving sister Barbara (Rowe) Hyland and her husband Richard of Kenner LA and a sister-in-law Lynn (Peterson) Honan and her husband Dennis of Manchester. Bill was a graduate of Manchester High School Class of 1966, after which he attend CCSU. A Marine Corps Veteran of the Vietnam War, with two Purple Hearts, Bill, served with the U.S.P.S. for over 25 years as a Safety Specialist with CT Valley District. He was an active longtime member and officer of the Wethersfield Rocky Hill Elks #2308 ,serving as Exalted Ruler in 2002-2003 and 2003- 2004 and District Deputy GER 2006-2007. Bill was a member of the Veterans of the Vietnam War Assoc. and VFW Post #2083 East Hartford. Bill worked effortless over the years raising monies for various charities, scholarship funds, Elks Hoop Shoot and with the Veteran’s from the Rocky Hill Vets Home and Hospital. Bill was an avid sports fan and trivia buff. He loved to play golf, and he loved his Red Sox’s, Dallas Cowboy’s and both UConn Basketball and Football teams. Bill played baseball as a pitcher throughout high school, the Marine Corp and played and managed the Elks Lodge softball team. His favorite time of the year was “March Madness” and his Fantasy Football Leaque in the fall. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 10am from the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in St. James Church, 767 Elm St., Rocky Hill. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery, Bow Lane, Middletown, CT. Friends may call on the family, Friday, February 26, from 5-8pm at the FuneralHhome.
