George R. Nelson 86, of Newington entered into the Lord’s embrace Thursday, February 11, 2010 at home. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late George E. and Mary Ann (Dobson) Nelson. George proudly served his country as a Sgt. in the U. S. Army during WW II. Upon his return to the U.S. he entered and graduated with a Civil Engineering Degree from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. and enjoyed many years with the Dept. of Transportation for the state of Connecticut. George is survived by his son Paul J. Nelson of Encinitas, CA and his daughters Joan M. Nelson of San Diego, CA, MaryJean Nelson of Encinitas, CA, and Lynn M. Nelson of Wake Forrest, N. C. as well as his brother Joseph F. Nelson of Wethersfield and five grandchildren, Brandon, Brian, and Tracy Nelson and Jonathan and Kathryn Kohls. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at 9am from the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd, Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Holy Spirit Church, 183 Church St, Newington. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park, 580 Elm St. Rocky Hill. Friends and relatives may call on the family Tuesday, February, 16, from 6 to 9 pm at the Funeral Home.
