Irene Georgiades, 101, lifelong resident of East Hartford, beloved wife of 63 years to the late George Georgiades, passed away peacefully at her home Wednesday January 27, 2010, with her family by her side. Irene was born in 1908, was raised and resided in the same family homestead until her passing. She was a graduate of the East Hartford school system and subsequently attended post secondary business school. She held progressive financial administrative positions until her retirement from the Travelers Insurance Co. Irene’s family and religious faith were the focus of her life. She was a faithful Communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church. When Irene could no longer commute to mass, she adapted her daily routine and participated in the Celebration of the Eucharist on television. She was a member of the Travelers Retirees Club and the East Hartford South End Senior Citizens, where she served as the President in 1986 and 1987. Irene especially enjoyed her years as a member of the East Hartford Senior Citizens Needle Point Group. She and her husband created many wonderful works of art for her family and friends. She was also avid reader. Irene will be fondly remembered by her loving and caring family; her daughter and son in law, Kathryn and William Vaiciulis of Mystic; grandson, Mark Vaiciulis and his wife Marianne and their daughters, Gwynn and Paige, all of Lake Oswego, OR; her granddaughter Amy Coates, and her husband Robert and their son Kaelan, all of East Greenwich, RI. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Irene’s life will be held Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 10:30 am in Blessed Sacrament Church, 36 Cambridge Dr., East Hartford. Interment will follow in Hockanum Cemetery, Main Street, East Hartford. There are no calling hours. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in Irene’s name to Blessed Sacrament Church, 36 Cambridge Drive, East Hartford, CT 06118 or the Office of Radio and Television, Archdiocese of Hartford, 15 Peach Orchard Rd, Prospect, CT 06712.
