Joan (Schnetzler) Stuer, of Wethersfield, beloved wife of Kenneth Stuer passed on peacefully at home Tuesday January 12, 2010, with her husband and brother by her side. Born August 20, 1931, in Philadelphia, PA, prior to moving to Harrison, N.Y, she was the daughter of the late Julius and Christine (Miner) Schnetzler. Joan resided in Wethersfield since 1981. Joan was a wonderful, kind, and generous person, and was the light of Ken’s life and he shall dearly miss her. Joan worked a combined total of 45 years at the Aetna Fire Insurance Co., which combined with the Cigna Insurance Co. She always loved her work and the people she met there. When she retired, she was a Financial Consultant reporting to the Comptroller. Upon her retirement, Joan was called back to work in a Medical Group Systems Department. Joan’s hobby was writing short stories. She enjoyed it immensely, but never seemed to have enough time for it. There were still many happy times when individual stories were published in nationally distributed magazines. Joan was a communicant of St. Luke’s Church. In addition to her husband, Ken, Joan is survived by her two brothers; Edward and his wife Anne of Hartford, and Robert of Wethersfield; her sister-in-law Charlotte and her husband Greg Gregoire of Maryland. Other survivors include her step-daughters, Kim Stuer of Florida, and Robin Vandegrift and her husband Paul of South Carolina; special nieces LuAnn Porcello, her husband Tom and their three children, of South Windsor, Paul Ann Marianella also of South Windsor, and Mary Alice Goot and her husband Stephen and their three children, all of Wallingford; and many other nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Funeral procession from the Farley-Sullivan Funeral, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield, will be held Saturday January 16, 2010, commencing at 9:00am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Joan’s life at 10:00am in St. Luke’s Church, 66 Bolton Street, Hartford. Interment will follow in the family plot in Rose Hill Memorial Park (Section 28), 580 Elm Street, Rocky Hill. Ken and the family will receive relatives and friends Friday January 15 at the Funeral Home, from 4-7pm.
